What is Bing AI Performance report?
The Bing AI Performance report is a Bing Webmaster Tools report, announced in public preview on 10 February 2026, that shows how often a site is cited as a source in AI-generated answers from Microsoft Copilot, AI summaries in Bing and select partner integrations. It reports citations, not rankings.
What it shows
- Total citations: how often your site was displayed as a source in AI-generated answers in the chosen period.
- Average cited pages: the daily average of unique pages from your site that were cited.
- Grounding queries: the key phrases the AI used to retrieve the content it cited. Microsoft says this is a sample of overall citation activity.
- Page-level citation activity: counts for single URLs. Microsoft says this reflects how often pages are cited, not page importance, ranking or placement.
Microsoft's announcement describes citation counts and does not mention clicks. Check your own report for what it shows before you rely on click figures.
What changed in June 2026
On 16 June 2026 Microsoft announced four more preview features: Intents, which groups grounding queries into categories such as informational, commercial and navigational; Topics, which clusters related grounding queries; Compare, which overlays an earlier period on the current view; and Citation Share, the percentage of citations shown for a grounding query that go to your site. Microsoft calls Citation Share an observational metric, not a ranking system or a competitive scoreboard.
How to use it
It is first-party data from the Microsoft side and complements tracking of other assistants. It covers the Microsoft surfaces named above, so measure ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude separately with prompt tracking. Grounding queries are a useful source of real query fan-out-style phrasing to add to your tracked prompts.
