What is semantic search?

Also: Meaning-based search

Semantic search finds results by meaning, not only by matching words. It uses language understanding and embeddings, so a page can match a question that shares no keywords with it. AI assistants rely on it to retrieve sources, which makes topic coverage and clear wording more important than exact-match keywords.

Impact on content

Answer the real question behind a query, define terms in plain words and cover related sub-questions on the same page or in linked pages.

Example: a search for "how to stop customers leaving" returns a page about churn reduction that never uses the first phrase.
