What is AEO?

Also: Answer engine optimization

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so that answer engines, such as AI assistants, voice assistants and featured snippets, can extract a direct answer from it. It overlaps heavily with GEO; AEO emphasizes concise, answer-first content and structured data.

What AEO focuses on

AEO starts from the question a person asks. Each page leads with a short, direct answer and then explains it, so that a system can lift the answer without rewriting it. Question-style headings, FAQ sections and schema markup are typical tools.

AEO vs GEO

In practice the terms are used almost interchangeably. AEO comes from the featured-snippet and voice-search era; GEO is more often used for generative assistants. The work you do is largely the same. Nodpick measures the outcome both aim for: whether AI assistants name your brand.
