What is Schema markup?
Also: Structured data, JSON-LD
Schema markup is structured data added to a web page, usually as JSON-LD using the schema.org vocabulary, that states in machine-readable form what the page is about: an organization, product, FAQ, article or defined term. It helps search engines and other systems interpret pages accurately.
Useful types
- Organization: name, URL, logo and official profiles.
- FAQPage: questions and answers on the page.
- Product and Offer: price and availability.
- BreadcrumbList: where the page sits in the site.
Expectations
Structured data is good hygiene and supports rich results in classic search. Independent evidence that it increases AI citations is thin, so keep it accurate and consistent but do not expect it to be a growth lever by itself.
