What is Wikidata?

Also: Wikipedia, Wikidata entry

Wikidata is a free, structured database run by the Wikimedia Foundation, and Wikipedia is its best-known neighbour. Both are public sources that search engines and assistants can read for facts about companies and people. Entries must be neutral and backed by independent sources, so they cannot be created as advertising.

What you can do

If your company meets the notability rules, make sure existing entries are correct and cite independent sources. Follow the conflict-of-interest guidelines: disclose, propose edits on talk pages and do not write promotional text.

Example: a company's Wikidata item lists its official website, founding date and industry, each backed by a reference.
