What is IndexNow?

Also: Instant indexing protocol

IndexNow is an open protocol, started by Microsoft Bing and Yandex, that lets a site tell participating search engines immediately when a URL was added, changed or deleted. Bing supports it; Google does not. Faster Bing updates can matter because Microsoft Copilot answers draw on Bing's index.

How it works

You host a key file on your site and send a ping or API call with the changed URLs. Many CMS and CDN platforms offer a plugin or setting.

Example: after you update your pricing page, a CMS plugin pings IndexNow so Bing learns about the change within minutes instead of days.
